Episode 01: Introduction!
Welcome to my podcast! Happy that you are listening to me! Let me introduce here who I am and what the show will be about.
So I am Choy Yiu Chan, a Dutch Chinese or a Chinese Dutch currently living in Hong Kong. I am born and educated in the Netherlands and spend my time there until the age of 30. My parents had a Chinese restaurant – very cliché in for someone with my background and I grew up in a very very small town (Hoek van Holland which literally means the corner of the Netherlands) so as soon as I could I leave that place, I did!
I worked as a lawyer for a couple of years in a big Dutch law firm and I learned a lot and I enjoyed the work but I felt that this life would not make me happy for the long term. And when I experienced Shanghai for the first time in my life in 2005, I felt that I came alive and felt a strong need to be there.
So I decided to quit my job and move to Shanghai. That was in 2006. It was so exciting to be in that city where the vibe was so dynamic and energetic. My intention was to just stay for 6 months which resulted in 10+ years. I teamed up with my business partners Hugo Muller and Zach Lichtblau and now as the Equasia Group and Bonnard Lawson International Law Firm Shanghai we have offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong where we advise our clients with their business in Asia.
In this show I want to give you tips about doing business in Asia and specifically China and secretly also about choices and possibilities in life. My intention is to share, connect and learn together. I will interview entrepreneurs, experts and advisors who are willing to share their knowledge, experience and stories. So if you want to know more about doing business and in particular doing business in Asia with a focus on China, you came to the right channel!
